Cornfield

This is the installation for the exhibition " Where is Architecture? Seven Installations by Japanese Architects " by The National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo. It is the exhibition's intention to exhibit architecture (installation) as a real thing rather than photographs, models and drawings to be substitutes for real buildings and make people to feel architectures more intuitively. It is fairly special as an architectural exhibition. In addition, although there were seven exhibitors, the intention of the curator to exhibit seven installations without dividing them by walls as much as possible was also characteristic. The given site to me was the unstable space that is surrounded by other exhibits and has no wall behind. In such the place I made the object like cornfield that was left without being mowed. The external shape is the large triangular prism with the plane of 30° 60° 90° right triangle and the height of about 1.8 m. It is the self-sustaining structure made of paper three-dimensional lattice and fixed to the floor. When people walk around the object, the view at the opposite side of it changes every moment by the many lines overlapping. The size, height, shape, arrangement and structure of the object in the exhibition space are carefully decided so that the whole shape cannot be grasped immediately. By doing so, it is felt as a space rather than an object.

とうもろこし畑

東京国立近代美術館による建築展「建築はどこにあるの？7つのインスタレーション」でのインスタレーションである。実物の建築の代換物である写真や模型や図面ではなく、実物としての建築（インスタレーション）を展示し、建築をより直感的に感じてもらうというのが展覧会の意図である。建築展としてはかなり特殊である。また、出展者は7組であるが、それらをできるだけ壁で区切らず展示するとうキュレーターの意向も特徴的であった。与えられた場所は、周囲を他の展示に囲まれた、壁を背負えない不安定な場所であった。そのような場所に対し、刈り残されたトウモロコシ畑のような物体をつくった。外形は、平面が３０°６０°９０°の直角三角形で、高さが約1.8mの大きな三角柱である。紙の格子でつくられていて、床に固定された自立する構造物である。周囲を歩くと、たくさんの線の重なりによって向こう側の見え方が刻々と変化する。全貌がすぐには把握できないように、展示空間に対する物体の広さ、高さ、形状、配置、構造が注意深く決められている。それにより、物体ではなく、空間として感じられるようになっている。
